Goal Setting and Goal Reaching

It was a cold snowy day back in November when a small group of girls were given a challenge.
Their coach looked at them and asked them to do what they though was impossible, bench press 135 pounds to get their name on "THE WALL".
The Hamilton Weight room has a series of posters, each having the names of people who have benched a certain amount. On that cold day in November, 135lbs seemed impossible. There were only boys listed on the wall.
A girl had never been placed on the bench press wall.
Now after 7 months of hard work, focus and discipline TWO of our athletes have earned their placement on "THE WALL".
Congratulate Kristin and Nia. Hamilton's Strongest Girls!
Another Hamilton Girls FIRST!!!
Focus, Lift, Throw, Repeat....

Make it 4!!
Marcus earns his trip to the NY State Championships!!
He had to do the impossible. He had to beat himself. He had to do it when it mattered.
He did!
Marcus destroyed his own personal best to beat the qualifying standard and earn his second trip the State Meet...
That brings the total Hamilton athletes to 4.
Well done Marcus, well done.
If I can chime in as well...
There are few, if any, athletes on this team who study their event more closely and who are more knowledgeable about their event than Marcus is with the triple jump. He practiced, analyzed and worked all week trying to find a way to get to 43 feet. On Saturday that effort paid off.
Although he is leaving us, his attitude and desire should serve as a model for our future. If everyone of us dedicates ourselves to their events with that type of intensity there are no bounds to what this team can accomplish,
Enjoy the state meet Marcus. Nobody deserves to be there any more than you.

Serious Sprinting

Ok, I know I'm not the sprint guy, but you have to watch Tyson Gay eat up the stagger in the first 5om of this race. He winds up running a 19.58 the 3rd fastest time ever. American sprinting is not dead yet!

State Qualifiers - Off to Syracuse
After two incredibly late track meets the Hamilton Track program will continue to be represented at the New York State Championships. This marks the 7th straight year Hamilton Track has competed amongst the best in NY. Also for the first time Hamilton will have three athletes (as of now) competing in 4 different events.
Jon S. - High Jumper
Jon has had a tremendous season in the high jump. His personal best is a jump of 6'4" at the Nanuet Relays. Since then, he has consistently cleared 6'0 at every major meet he has attended. Jon is the Division II Section 1 High Jump Champion for 2009.
Tyonna S. - 100m Hurdler
Tyonna is putting the final touches on a very successful high school track career. This will be Ty's 2nd State Championships (she placed 8th overall in 08). Ty enters the state meet as League IV champion, Class C runner-up and ranked top 10 in all of NY Class C schools.
Tamika S. - 100m Dash & 200m Dash
Tamika is a Junior and competing in her 4th outdoor track and field season. Tamika has also shown herself to be an athlete of the highest abilities. She has qualifed to compete at the state meet in 2 events, running personal bests in both in order to qualify. Tamika enters the state meet as League IV Champion in both events and runner up in Class C.
In Limbo - Marcus and the 4x1 Relay
Due to a twist of luck and the complex rules of qualification, Marcus and the girls 4x1 need to break a qualifying mark in order to gain their entry into the state championships. They will compete this coming week with hopes of earning their trip.
